Replit is a general-purpose coding environment with an agent layer. vly is opinionated for production React + Convex apps. The migration depends on whether your Replit project fits vly’s shape.

When to migrate

  • You’re building a web app (especially React-based).
  • You want managed backend, auth, and deployment.
  • You’re tired of configuring infrastructure on Replit.

When to stay

  • Your Replit project is in Python, Rust, or a non-web language.
  • You need a notebook or general-purpose REPL environment.
  • You rely on Replit’s classroom / collaboration features.

Migration steps

1

Audit the Replit project

Identify: tech stack, third-party integrations, data store.
2

If React-based, start a vly project

Re-prompt the spec.
3

Port code in chunks

Components first; then backend logic.
4

Migrate data

Export from your existing DB (Postgres, Firestore, etc.); import into Convex.
5

Re-set up integrations

Stripe, Resend, etc.

Tips

vly’s stack is fixed. If you really need Postgres or Python, vly may not fit. Use Replit + a vly-built admin tool, perhaps.

Quickstart

Build your first vly app.

vly vs Replit.

What is vly?

Make sure vly fits your needs.
