vly runs entirely in the browser. There’s nothing to install, but a few things make the experience better.

Browsers

We support the last two major versions of each browser. Older versions may work but aren’t tested.

Network

Bandwidth

5 Mbps minimum, 25 Mbps recommended. Streaming agent output and live preview both use bandwidth.

Latency

Under 200ms ping to vly’s edge for the smoothest experience. Higher is fine; the agent runs server-side.

WebSocket support

Required (Convex’s reactive sync). Most networks allow WebSockets; corporate firewalls sometimes block them.

Domains to allowlist

*.vly.ai, *.vly.app, *.convex.cloud (for the runtime), and the auth provider domain you use (Google, GitHub, etc.).

Optional tools

Helpful but not required:

Git client

Only if you use the GitHub integration and want to clone the repo locally.

Node.js 20+

Only if you’ll use the vly CLI for local automation.

A code editor (VS Code, Cursor, etc.)

Only for hand-editing locally cloned repos. The in-browser editor is full-featured.

Stripe CLI

Useful for forwarding webhooks to localhost when developing Stripe integrations. See Stripe docs.

Operating systems

vly works on any OS with a supported browser:
  • macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon)
  • Windows 10+
  • Linux (any modern distribution)
  • Chrome OS
There’s no native desktop app today. iPad with a keyboard works for read-only review; full editing requires a desktop browser.

Mobile

The vly dashboard works on mobile (read-only). The editor doesn’t — Monaco-based editors don’t fit on a phone screen, and the multi-pane layout assumes a wide viewport. If you need mobile-friendly project management, we recommend:
  • iOS / Android browser to view deploys, billing, and team settings.
  • Desktop or tablet (12”+) with keyboard for editing.

Accessibility

vly’s UI follows WCAG 2.1 AA. Keyboard navigation is supported throughout the editor and dashboard. Screen reader compatibility is a work in progress — we’d love feedback at accessibility@vly.ai.

Troubleshooting

Usually a memory issue. Close other tabs; restart the browser. If it persists with one tab, the project may be large enough to benefit from the dedicated editor profile (Settings → Editor → Performance mode).
WebSocket connection dropped. Refreshing usually fixes it. If it keeps happening, check whether your network blocks WebSockets.
Browser extension (often privacy / ad-blocker) interfering. Allowlist vly.ai or test in incognito.

Quickstart

Verify everything works with a five-minute build.
