# Migrating from Cursor

> vly and Cursor solve different problems. Many users keep Cursor for local editing alongside vly for net-new apps.

[Cursor](https://cursor.com) is an AI-assisted code editor. vly is an AI app builder. They're **complements**, not substitutes — many vly users keep Cursor for local hand-editing.

## If you really want to migrate

If you have a Cursor-built React app and want to move it to vly:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start a new vly project from the spec">
    Re-prompt; verify the shape matches.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Port your existing code piece by piece">
    Paste components and pages into vly's editor (Code mode).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Migrate data">
    From your current DB to Convex.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Re-set up integrations">
    API keys into vly's secret store.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Tips

<Tip>
  **For tight collaboration with Cursor, wait for code export.** It's on the [roadmap](/resources/roadmap). Once shipped, you can vibe-code in vly and refactor locally in Cursor.
