# System requirements

> What you need to use vly — supported browsers, internet bandwidth, optional tools, and platform-specific notes.

vly runs entirely in the browser. There's nothing to install, but a few things make the experience better.

## Browsers

| Browser | Supported | Notes |
| - | - | - |
| Chrome (latest) | ✓ | Recommended |
| Edge (latest) | ✓ | Same engine as Chrome |
| Firefox (latest) | ✓ | Fully supported |
| Safari 17+ | ✓ | Fully supported |
| Brave | ✓ | Disable "Strict" shields on `vly.ai` |
| Arc | ✓ | Same engine as Chrome |
| Mobile browsers | Read-only | Editing requires desktop |

We support the **last two major versions** of each browser. Older versions may work but aren't tested.

## Network

  <Card title="Bandwidth" icon="wifi">
    5 Mbps minimum, 25 Mbps recommended. Streaming agent output and live preview both use bandwidth.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Latency" icon="signal">
    Under 200ms ping to vly's edge for the smoothest experience. Higher is fine; the agent runs server-side.
  </Card>

  <Card title="WebSocket support" icon="cable">
    Required (Convex's reactive sync). Most networks allow WebSockets; corporate firewalls sometimes block them.

    `*.vly.ai`, `*.vly.app`, `*.convex.cloud` (for the runtime), and the auth provider domain you use (Google, GitHub, etc.).

## Optional tools

Helpful but not required:

    Only if you use the [GitHub integration](/integrations/github) and want to clone the repo locally.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Node.js 20+" icon="hexagon">
    Only if you'll use the [vly CLI](/api-reference/sdks/cli) for local automation.
  </Card>

  <Card title="A code editor (VS Code, Cursor, etc.)" icon="code">
    Only for hand-editing locally cloned repos. The in-browser editor is full-featured.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Stripe CLI" icon="terminal">
    Useful for forwarding webhooks to localhost when developing Stripe integrations. See [Stripe docs](https://stripe.com/docs/stripe-cli).
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Operating systems

vly works on any OS with a supported browser:

* macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon)
* Windows 10+
* Linux (any modern distribution)
* Chrome OS

There's no native desktop app today. iPad with a keyboard works for read-only review; full editing requires a desktop browser.

## Mobile

The vly **dashboard** works on mobile (read-only). The **editor** doesn't — Monaco-based editors don't fit on a phone screen, and the multi-pane layout assumes a wide viewport.

If you need mobile-friendly project management, we recommend:

* iOS / Android browser to view deploys, billing, and team settings.
* Desktop or tablet (12"+) with keyboard for editing.

## Accessibility

vly's UI follows WCAG 2.1 AA. Keyboard navigation is supported throughout the editor and dashboard. Screen reader compatibility is a work in progress — we'd love feedback at [accessibility@vly.ai](mailto:accessibility@vly.ai).

## Troubleshooting

  <Accordion title="The editor is slow / laggy" icon="alert-triangle">
    Usually a memory issue. Close other tabs; restart the browser. If it persists with one tab, the project may be large enough to benefit from the dedicated editor profile (`Settings → Editor → Performance mode`).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Live preview shows 'Disconnected'" icon="alert-triangle">
    WebSocket connection dropped. Refreshing usually fixes it. If it keeps happening, check whether your network blocks WebSockets.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Unknown CORS errors" icon="alert-triangle">
    Browser extension (often privacy / ad-blocker) interfering. Allowlist `vly.ai` or test in incognito.
