# Sharing projects

> Public previews, password-protected links, embed codes, and how to share a project with someone outside your workspace.

vly projects are private to your workspace by default. To show one to someone outside — a customer, an investor, a friend — share it via one of these mechanisms.

## Three sharing modes

<CardGroup cols={3}>
  <Card title="Public preview link" icon="link">
    Anyone with the link can view the live app (read-only). No sign-in required.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Password-protected link" icon="lock">
    Same, but gated by a password. Useful for client previews.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Workspace member" icon="user-plus">
    Add the person to your workspace. They get full access.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Public preview link

<Steps>
  <Step title="Project → Share → Public preview">
    Toggle on. vly generates a URL like `your-project.vly.app/preview/{token}`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy the link">
    Anyone with it can use the live app.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Revoke at any time">
    Toggle off; the link stops working immediately.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The shared link points to the **production environment** (or preview, your choice). It does not expose the editor or any project source.

## Password-protected

<Steps>
  <Step title="Same flow, set a password">
    Project → Share → Public preview → "Require password". Set a password.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Visitors enter the password before reaching the app">
    A simple gate; one password for everyone with the link.
  </Step>
</Steps>

For per-user auth (each visitor signs in), use the project's built-in auth flow.

## Embed code

For embedding a vly project in another website (a marketing page, a docs site):

```html theme={null}
<iframe
  src="https://your-project.vly.app/embed?theme=light"
  width="100%"
  height="600"
  style="border: 0; border-radius: 12px;"
></iframe>
```

Embeds support `?theme=light|dark|system` and `?route=/some-path` for deep linking.

## Adding workspace members

For permanent collaborators:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Workspace settings → Members → Invite">
    Enter their email. Pick a role (admin / member).
  </Step>

  <Step title="They accept the invite">
    Sign in (or sign up) and they're in.
  </Step>

  <Step title="They see the project in their workspace switcher">
    Full editing access if their role permits.
  </Step>
</Steps>

See [Workspaces](/features/workspace/workspaces) and [Roles & permissions](/features/auth/roles-and-permissions).

## What gets shared, what doesn't

| Asset | Public preview | Password-protected | Workspace member |
| - | - | - | - |
| Live app behavior | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Source code | ✗ | ✗ | ✓ |
| Project history | ✗ | ✗ | ✓ |
| Schema | ✗ | ✗ | ✓ |
| Secrets / API keys | Never | Never | Never (members never see secrets directly) |
| Billing | ✗ | ✗ | Owners + admins only |
